Evaluation Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
When I look back at my preliminary task, I feel that I have learnt a lot about technologies and magazines over a short period of time. The first magazine cover I created was a school magazine which is extremely different to my music magazine cover as 'Disgrace' is supposed to be dramatic. Since creating the school magazine, I have learnt about the conventions of a magazine and the importance of certain features to draw the audience in. The features included in my music magazine cover are essential as they agree with my target audience expectations and feedback as they felt that certain features need to stand out more than others. The photo shoots in my music magazine are well thought through and planned as I described what I intended to capture before the photo shoots in comparison to the school cover image where I only planned the location and the model for the shoot. The colour and the basic layout in the school magazine are reasonably successful as they are included in appropriate places and the colours are suitable to the magazine context. The bright colours and the bold features included in my music magazine help draw a young target audience in and the cover lines and the professional secondary images make the reader want to buy the magazine (this is because I studied my target audience and what they enjoy in a magazine). During the course, I learnt that applying puffs, pugs and an anchorage are very useful as they make important elements and features stand out. I experimented with the puffs on my music magazine as I thought they would make the cover seem quirky and to show a similarity in other rock magazines. I made the puffs and the anchorage a dark purple colour for my first draft which I was proud of but it did not look professional and therefore I had to get rid of the purple and a yellow suited it more. If it wasn't for the feedback of my teacher, the purple features would be remaining as I thought the irony of purple being a royal colour along side 'The New Queen' was clever but unfortunately it did not stand out.
When I started this course, I had not used Serif Page Plus and blogger so it was strange when planning the cover and not being able to make my cover a reality and to also document the process of this project. I have learnt to spend more time and attention on my different creative pieces and the details involved in my music magazine. I have had to create numerous drafts and improve features and where I place them so that my target audience is pleased with the outcome. These two magazine covers are very important to me as they show the increasing level of my knowledge through this project.

Challenges facing the Magazine Indusrty
Meeting expectations of customers in the
digital age: The mobile generation expects very different experiences
from companies and organisations, including public administration. Nobody wants
to wait in line for services anymore so instead, they want to be able to
arrange their whole lives online.
Finding and keeping the people who can digitally transform a company: Finding and keeping somebody who builds user experiences that make the
difference to customers’ lives will become increasingly difficult. Companies
that want digital success need to become technology companies.
Big data: Big data is presenting
companies with new opportunities to learn more about their customers, enabling
them to personalise products and services, to change their
product development process to reflect what people really want. However,
companies are still struggling with getting consumer confidence on this issue,
as many consumers are not interested by hyper-personalized offers that seem to
invade their personal space.

Front Cover Feedback
I have received feedback from members of my target audience who appear to be happy with my final music magazine. When I was first designing my cover; I had a vision of what I wanted to do and how I wanted the magazine to come across but I just needed help from my target audience (teenagers of both genders). When I created my first draft for my final cover, I filmed the reactions and opinions of my target audience and I am glad I did that as their criticism and ideas placed me on the right track as I knew what they wanted to see. The features I have been working on since include photoshoots for the secondary images, rephrasing captions and moving different features to make the cover look professional. The feedback I have received through text messages is very positive and I am pleased that they would buy it.

Front Cover FINAL
This is my music magazine final cover, I have created a lot of drafts for this cover as I have collected a lot of feedback and have researched similar music magazine covers. As this is the final copy, I have added an image from the photo shoot with Einstein which I have lightened to stand out against the background. I have moved the cover lines to fill in the empty spaces on the page and the writing is still visible when placed on top of the image. The colours work together perfectly and the central image is exactly what I planned as it displays a sense of professionalism as they are all looking at the camera and it is central.
Contents Page FINAL
I am really pleased with my contents page because every photo shoot I did for the magazine is presented on this page to tell the reader that they are featured inside. I feel that each photo shoot is extremely different and their music and personality shines through. I have organised the different features into categories to make certain features easy to find for the magazine readers. The colours used are also applied on the cover and the double page spread so I have kept with a theme throughout. The image of Saint Lucinda is larger because they are the main topic of the magazine and the page numbers are also included on the photos for the reader.

Mock up of Double Page Spread
This is my Double Page Spread so far, I am incredibly pleased with the close-ups of each individual member because it looks exactly like I planned it to be and the dark shadows emphasise the darkness of rock and dramatises the rock band. The large logo stands for Saint Lucinda and I combined the two first letters together to provide a sense of unity and I included a logo because most bands have logos in which their fans identify them by. The slogan is red to suggest the bands power and passion towards music as well as the font which has a lot of sharp and long edges to infer importance and that they are definitely not afraid to stands out. I still feel that the logo does not look advanced enough so I will be adjusting it to captivate the readers attention more. I am interviewing Saint Lucinda and the questions and answers will be on the right hand side because technically the right side is the first page the reader lays their eyes on.

Double Page Spread Research
Whilst I was creating my double page spread, I really needed some inspiration for the layout as I have not made a double page spread before. I was looking for certain features I could include to make it seem more exciting, appealing to the eye and readable because I want to create a double page spread that makes people want to read more. The double page spreads that I have chosen all have a large focus on the artist and I think their different poses reveal who they are as artists and their genre of music. The colours also play a large part in what the interview is going to be about; whether it is serious or promoting their new music. Most of the double page spreads I have looked at; have quotes in bold, large writing to emphasise and summarise the context of the interview.

Photo Planning
The photoshoot of Saint Lucina went really well and the blog post I put up of planning the photoshoot was very accurate to what actually happened. My photo shoot ended up taking place back stage of the theatre where the walls a black and with no source of light to lure the audience in and to replicate 'Queen'.
As there are three members in 'Saint Lucinda', the female lead singer is in the centre of the image with the lead guitarist and the bass guitarist at her sides to present a dramatic feel to it and to emphasise the female in the band. The central image consists of light shining upon everyone's faces to emphasise their diverse features and to also capture the audiences attention.
The props in the photo shoot are a bass guitar, an electric guitar and a microphone to demonstrate to the reader that each member is individually talented reinforcing the fact that they create their own music. The clothing the models will wear will be dark colours such as black, grey and dark blue or green to blend in with the background.
I took photographs of each band member to use for the images on the Double Page Spread. The individual shots are effective as they are also located in a dark room with an iPhone light shining upon their faces to dramatise the images with the use of a low camera shot.Photo Planning
This photo shoot is of 'Lost Souls' who are a female rock-indie band and their photos are featured on the front cover and the contents page to advertise their exclusive interview with my magazine 'Disgrace'. Their photographs are also in poster form which comes as a freebie with the magazine. The secondary images on the cover, show three posters from their photo shoot and I have chosen to include photos which display their personality, closeness and edgy style. The girls are wearing dark clothes; mostly black to demonstrate stereotypical 'rock' music. One of the models is chewing gum and the other is listening to music with their earphones to suggest their rebellious personality which is shown typically in 'rock' music. The location of the photo shoot took place outside on a bright afternoon against a brick wall with natural light shining upon the wall to show how natural 'rock' music is. Their friendship is demonstrated with touching, laughing and having a similar fashion style.
Photo Planning
This photo shoot goes towards the secondary image on my front and the image in the contents page. The model is Francis Basco but he is known as Einstein who is a singer song writer and he is promoting his brand new album. The photo shoot took place outdoors when it was a foggy morning which had an eerie and natural effect which brought the shoot to life. I decided the shoot should be an area with a lot of natural aspects such as with trees and flowers to portray the purity and calmness of his music. Einstein writes his own songs and can play many instruments; he specialises in playing the guitar and I wanted to show that his music comes from his soul and the photos display honesty and nature. He is wearing simple winter clothes and is covering up to infer that he is distant from society and the only way of communicating is through music. He is looking directly into the camera to connect with the reader and his pose is genuine and not over exaggerated to convey his normality. The photos are quite dark so I have edited them to make them brighter on the Serif Page Plus Photo Lab.

Final magazine cover DRAFT

This is my music magazine cover and I am really happy with it as all the colours work together perfectly and the central image is exactly what i planned as it displays a sense of professionalism. I moved the image downwards so all their faces are not being taken over by other magazine features which was included in the target audience feedback. I tried to make the layout of certain features such as the font central so that the cover does not seem too busy and to display significance for 'Saint Lucinda'. I decided to make the puffs a bright yellow colour because it contrasts with the dark background and the writing is enlarged so that the words 'win' and 'free' stand out to the reader as that grabs their attention. I feel like this cover still needs more improvements and adjustments as there are blank spaces to be filled; possibly with a secondary image.

Target audience feedback on magazine cover
I chose three teenage members from my target audience to evaluate my front cover and they all gave feedback on what features I need to include and the positioning of certain features such as the central image and the secondary images. I was happy with the feedback as I completely agreed with the criticism and the majority of the comments were positive which is successful because I intend on making my target audience satisfied with the magazine. I filmed each interview with my iPhone 5c as it is easy to use and I put the interviews together with Final Cut Pro so that the questions I asked would be answered by each of them in order.

Music Magazine DRAFT
This is my Final cover for my music magazine and i am reasonably pleased with how it has turned out. I do not think that it is perfect as i am not entirely happy with the position of the central image.
I needed to collect some feedback from three people who fit into my target audience. I asked one male and two females what they think about my cover and what they would improve about my cover. I asked them about the:
- Masthead
- Pug and Puff
- The central image
- The cover lines
- The Price
- If they would buy it
I recorded peoples feedback on my iphone and i have taken their opinions on board and have improved my cover.
I am extremely happy with my magazine cover as it includes all the features a magazine should have and it appeals to my target audience. I am pleased with my central image as it looks professional and replicates the Rock band 'Queen' which is what 'Saint Lucinda' represents in their own way.
